Lizard Orchid Research

Pete Carey has been working on the Lizard Orchid since 1990, trying to determine what limits the northern distribution limit in England. In the early 1990s models were constructed that predicted where the species would be as the climate changes in coming decades. Dispersal models were developed but it soon became clear that nobody understands what it is about the weather that prevents the species growing further north.

Population studies show that Lizard Orchids vary hugely from one year to the next in flowering and seed production.
